I have extensive experience in multiple aspects of early childhood education: I've taught students from nursery school through sixth grade; I've worked in both public and private school settings; and I've served in both administrative and classroom roles. I have also worked as an adjunct professor teaching a graduate school course within a certification program for teachers working with students from preschool through third grade. I have completed two Master’s Degrees, with one in Education and another in Literacy. Most recently, I obtained NJ reading specialization and supervisory certifications.
I obtained my first permanent position working as a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher in the public school system. During that time, I developed experience with various teaching methods and models including Project Read and Balanced Literacy. My next role as a Director of a local nursery school included strategic planning, school administration (including academic, personnel and financial record keeping), compliance with state regulations, supervising staff, overseeing and formally evaluating the curriculum and instruction, conducting tours of the facilities, enrollment, registration, marketing, as well as teaching. I have also gained experienced working primarily with dyslexic students in a specialized independent school. In this academic environment, I was been able to use my Orton-Gillingham clinical experience to work with this population of struggling readers. I am currently working in a New Jersey public school as a reading specialist. Lastly, It was my great pleasure to have also serve as PTA Vice-President of my children's Elementary School and PTA President in middle school. This has been a rewarding experience. My roles as VP and President included organizing, recruiting, and motivating volunteers. As a PTA volunteer, I have been able to create strong partnerships with parents and the school community. |
